The main chemicals used in this procedure are trichloroacetic acid, alpha-hydroxy acids and salicylic acid.
There are different types of peels used in chemical peel procedures and they are

How does chemical peels work?
Chemical peels produce injury to the skin in a controlled fashion. It promotes growth of new cells with younger, smoother looking skin. Chemical peel appropriate to you skin is applied and left on the skin for a predetermined amount of time. The chemical penetrates the skin and destroys the bonds that hold each layer together. Once the desired amount of time is reached , the chemical is washed off the skin. Some redness will appear immediately after the peel . Soothing moisturizer is applied and you will be instructed to limit the sun exposure. Mild skin peeling may begin two days post peel and can extend up to five to seven days.

What are chemical peels used for?
Chemical Peels are used to treat Sun damage, wrinkles, scarring, acne, hyper-pigmentation (including melasma , age spots).

How many peels will I need?
Chemical peels that are superficial can be performed once weekly over several months to achieve desired result. Series of six to eight peels are recommended. Home care products will be recommended for homecare.

Some follow-up after care will be required such as proper washing, appropriate product use and protecting skin with sunscreen.
